Far Cry 2 - first look! -Part Deux - Reviews

If you enjoyed the first of two parts on Far Cry 2, then you'll definitely enjoy the concluding review by PC Gamer's (UK)!

Graham Smith has again, put pen to paper...err...fingers to keyboard and has continued on with his review of the much anticipated, yet to be released FPS Far Cry 2! As the main staple, and most memorable backdrop of the first Far Cry is the jungle, Far Cry 2 wouldn't feel like a Far Cry game if it wasn't present in the sequel...and according to this review, it does make a return, although, less tropical-ish, and not as expansive...

"Far Cry wouldn't be Far Cry without a heavy dose of jungle. While you will be crawling on your belly through the forest, it's not all-consuming like before. The canopy opens up and there are large expanses of open ground where there's hardly a piece of bark in sight."

Louis-Pierre Pharand, Far Cry 2's producer even chimes in with a little more detail on what type of landscape you can expect to be present while you're fighting the good fight...
"It was an absolute requirement that Far Cry 2 maintain the exoticism [of the original game]," explains Pharand. "The African savanna was a natural choice because there are several different kinds of plain in Africa. The grasslands are only one, and [allow] long draw distances, off-road vehicle pursuits and long-range shooting and sniping.

Savannah woodlands, on the other hand, actually come to approximate the levels of density you saw in the jungles of the original Far Cry, but in some ways it can feel like urban fighting with small but dense clusters of trees behaving like small buildings. Of course, you can't typically shoot through buildings, while if you think the enemy is on the other side of a stand of trees you can hose it down with a light machinegun to find out."

While designing Far Cry 2, Ubisoft attempts to cater to both groups of gamers that are sure to be scraping all available information on this game before the release date, those that are looking for a return to the familiar surroundings of a jungle, and those that expect/want something that is unmistakably Far Cry, but with some new bells and whistles.

Something I was curious about, since the announcement of the official sequel to Far Cry, is how this news, and the news of Crysis is being handled; With two big names on there way to market, is their cause for either to be worried? ...even a little bit? Again, Mr. Pharand to the rescue with his opinion on this...

"From what we know the games are virtually incomparable, which is great. We expect PC gamers will be more than happy to have two incredible titles to play instead of only one."
Choice is always good, and the choice between these two awesome titles will be an excruciatingly hard one to make...my solution? I'll be getting both of them! wink

Some really great reviews, be sure to check out both parts in their entirety by going here:

Great news. I saw this RIGHT before you posted it....This sounds very exciting. Thank you CryTek for no Trigens and no more Jack Carver. Storyline sounds realistic, and CE2 will be sweet. BTW, Crysis comes out Nov 17.
